LTTE strengthened thanks to President's war, says Mangala

Sri Lanka Freedom Party – People's Wing (SLFP-PW) leader Mangala Samaraweera says that LTTE has strengthened itself thanks to the war initiated by President Mahinda Rajapske. He also challenged to Defense Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse for a public debate on this argument.

Participating in an interview with a private TV channel last night (13) MP Mangala Samaraweera said that in contrast to the boasting of the government on the safety in Colombo, the bomb explosions took place not only in Colombo but also in far away villages. He said that none other than the LTTE is conducting them and the number of innocent civilians killed had increased. Commenting on the success in the Eastern front, the MP said that the war should be viewed as a whole and not as individual operations.

In that sense, instead of victory, the war had spread to villages in Deep South and the LTTE had been strengthened. He challenged Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse for a debate on this argument.
Stating that innocent civilians and the war heroes hailing from villages are the victims of war, MP Samaraweera said that neither the sons of President Rajapakse, his brother Gotabhaya nor the relatives of Weerawansas or Chakrawarthis are killed in this war.

President and his brother challenge the LTTE to target them if possible while using maximum security such as road emptying for the President to go from one end of the Galle Face to the other end and the 42 back up vehicles of the Defense Secretary. The maniac LTTE leader who cannot aim them, targets the innocent civilians, said Mr. Samaraweera.

Stating that the government targets civilians in north in retaliation to the LTTE terrorist acts, MP Samaraweera asked the government not to forget that all the killed are citizens of this country.

Pointing out that Chandrika’s cabinet vowed to end war in three or six months after capturing Jaffna, although war remained up to date, MP Samaraweera stated that problems of this nature had ever been resolved only by means of war anywhere in the world.

Mr. Mangala Samaraweera further stated that Mahinda Chinthanaya pledged to restructure the ceasefire and not to abrogate it. He says that people have not given a mandate to drag the country into an unending war.

Mr. Samaraweera alleged that none of the pledges of the Mahinda Chinthanaya manifesto had been fulfilled.
